A year or so after my father’s passing, my mom got rid of her car and used the one my father had been using.
That meant when my brother and I both came home from the city to visit my mom we were THREE adults with ONE car. At first it felt strained to coordinate the times each of us needed the car. But then it felt nurturing. I liked that we all had to coordinate schedules and that one of us couldn’t just take off with the car. It made me feel like we were all a unit. It felt tight-knit, supportive, and warm.
Currently my husband and I can’t really afford a second car; but I enjoy it for a similar reason—connectedness, as well as simplicity. Plus, as I said, saving money 😉
