Instead of berating yourself, figure out the funny. Find the humor. Not because it is funny, it’s likely not. But because it will give your brain something else to do other than berate yourself.
If you struggle with negative self talk, like all habits, this one is hard to break.
With habit change one is more successful with replacing the unwanted behavior with a different, wanted behavior, rather than trying to simply extinguish it.
So instead of berating yourself, pause, take a breath, try out a fresh perspective—and challenge yourself to “figure out the funny.”
