One of the last memories I have of my father is him going down to the basement to photocopy my hot-off-the-presses Beginners Mat Pilates Certificate.
As he opened the door to the basement, he looked back at me and said, “This is the first of many certifications you will receive.” He was glowing with pride.
At the time, it didn’t feel like such a major event. But 3 months later, he passed away, suddenly, and in future years I would look back at that moment in time as such a great gift.
My father saw me starting off on my journey as a health and wellness professional.
Watched as I began climbing the mountain that was to be my lifetime career.
That proud moment. That infusion of support and love that he gave to me.
It will forever remain in my heart.
Today marks 16 years after his passing.
Today I completed a Pilates continuing education session toward renewal of that very certification which I completed 16 years ago. Amongst all the additional certifications I have since achieved, and all the complexities that life in general has offered, I go back to that simple, pure moment in time.
My father’s belief in me. His excited gleam that knew I was to go on to further develop and flourish.
